hello everyone! it has been quite some time since i last posted on this site. i have been very busy due to being back in school full time and still working 30 hrs a week on top of that. but i have managed to SLOWLY work on a violin since this jan. i am at the varnishing state and thought that i'd share a few pictures.  sorry that the second and third image look unsymmetrical due to the angle of the camera.

Your violin looks very nice! The color is lovely so far what color will it end up?

I see from your website pictures, that you recess all of your linings into the blocks.
If and or when the time is right can you say something about the practise of doing this.
Oh and I should add:
Your violin looks very nice! The color is lovely so far what color will it end up?
Yes it's easy to accidently double post on this forum for some reason. |

it will probably end up being a nice red/brown color. maybe similar to this one that i did a while ago?:

sure, what would you like to know about the linings? i have very little time these days, but just ask some specific questions and i'll try my best to answer them for you. f
as for the color, it will probably end up being a nice red/brown color. maybe similar to this one that i did a while ago?:

Thanks for the posts.
I just wanted to know if you think this is needed, the letting in of all the linings, or is this a belt n' braces response, to be on the safe side?
Have you been taught to do this at the Chicago Violin Making School, or did you pick this up somewhere else?
I would guess that anyone using this instrument in the future will run less of a chance of buzzing because of it. |

Looks very nice.
What did you use for the ground? Only UV light ?

mostly uv light. also some liquin and paints.

i was taught that method at the chicago school. i guess i don't really have an opinion one way or another as far as pro's and con's with the linings being cut into the block or not cut into a block. i just see it more as a security measure so that the lining does not work its way loose as easily, if that happens. i just do it because i do not know any different!!
