I’m ready to finalize the graduations on a Strad back plate near the outer edge. The majority of the upper and lower bouts are at 2.5mm. The thickness at the fluting is 3.0mm.
At what distance from the edge should I stop the 2.5mm thickness and begin blending into the 3.0mm thickness?
At this time the 2.5mm thickness begins to increase at approximately 20mm from the edge.

That's fine. I might have let the thick stuff go even farther in. It's not a critical thing, and what to avoid is having the transition look clumsy because of any abrupt change. The edge should flow into the center gracefully, without a step or anything like that. |

Thank you. The plate weight is 105 grams. I'll give it a check for any thick areas to try to get closer to 100 grams and call it done.
I appreciate your help.

FWIW. I plotted the areas where the thickness begins to increase from 2.5mm. In the upper bouts its 23mm from the edge, in the lower bouts it’s 25mm from the edge so it’s a little farther away from the edge than I originally thought.

When you start talking 23mm and 25mm, you're thinking too hard. :-) Likewise, 105gms is fine. |

O.K. Thanks. It took me forever to graduate it. Next time I'll make it a little more relaxed.
