I am using International Violin oil varnish for the first time (I usually use Joe Robson's varnish and have not had this problem), and it is tacking up just a tad too quickly as I am varnishing, so my wet edge disappears. should I put in (to a couple ounces of varnish) a few drops of turpentine, pine oil, or kerosene? Or does it really not matter all that much?

If you're having a problem you need a solution. I haven't ever used that varnish, but you need to know that kerosene won't work with every varnish, and only a drop or two goes a long way. Turpentine needs to be added more liberally. I don't know about pine oil. Another potential assist is from a little added linseed oil, which, again, may or may not mix well with that varnish. Either oil or kerosene will give the friendliest brushing, if they work with that particular varnish.

Beyond that, perhaps someone with experience with that specific varnish will know the best one to use.

Thanks, Michael. I did add a few drops of turpentine to the varnish, but also I cleaned the brush before doing the back and front, which also helped.
