I'm looking at purchasing my own violin (currently I'm renting), and I'm curious to know if it would be better to buy a nice bow and a beginner violin, or a beginner bow and nice violin? Price range being about $800 total (I know even this may be low for a violin, but that's all I have). Thanks for your help! =) _________________ That's the beauty of music. both are equally important . buy the best quality you can afford. Im looking to get a better bow myself. Let me know what you end up with and your opinion. _________________ I inherited a painting and a violin which turned out to be a Rembrandt and a Stradivarius. Unfortunately, Rembrandt made lousy violins and Stradivarius was a terrible painter. |

I made my own violin, so it's pretty good (if I do say so myself... ), but I bought a $30 "student" bow. It's made of Brazil wood, and has real horsehair. However, even though I've only been practicing for a couple of weeks, I'm seeing why a $30 bow is not a good idea - I will be replacing it ASAP with a nice carbon-fiber bow... _________________ Tim

Ask your teacher or another professional violinist to help you pick out your equipment. _________________ Eve Abraham
