Can someone recommend a good solid cello pattern for me? I'm looking for something that can make a really good playing and sounding instrument.

I have had good results using the 1704 "Glennie" Strad outline and F-holes for my violins... I do well making the same pattern instrument over and over. I'd like to find something similar for cello.

Thanks,
Jeremiah

Hi Jeremiah,

Have you looked at the posters that are available from Strad Magazine.
The have a poster of the Davidov cello that Yo Yo Ma plays. I think it is a "B" model cello.

Best Regards,

Les

Hi Jeremiah,

The Davidov is an excellent choice. And yes, it is a b mold from about the middle of that time period. The 'Servais' (Might be the Stanline now that I think of it) is IIRC the last of the b-mold cellos. After than Strad went to the picolo b mold of which the best example is the deMunk (now played by Stephen Isterless). Another excellent choice would be the sleeping beauty (formerly owned by Igor Piategorsky).

Steven

I really would like an Andrea Guarneri cello poster, they sound great, a dark, beautifull sound.
