Hi to whoever's bothered to listen.
Im going to use this thread to keep track of my progress and let others comment on my learning.
Got my lesson on Thursday. Played some scales then learned how to slide between first and third position Thats tricky.
With the suzuki book thrown away and my fingers in correct positions I am now starting with ABRSM books. They teach how to recognise notation a lot better. I also managed to find two books in the second hand shop of past exam papers and a preliminary studies ABRSM book. each book was 99p. |

Rehearsing the two Bach pieces from suzuki book 1
I find they are good to vary between crescendo's diminuendo's and 3/4 expression seeing the concert the other night gave me a better feel for what bach intended to portray in his music. _________________ you cant get any worse |

Highlander Did you get used to the first to third shift? Do that movement separately . First in first position, jump to first in third position ,then back.Let your ear guide you .Repeat till you get bored. In a few days it will be automatic. Do it like "keepy uppy". |

I'm still not tackling the shift to third position too well, even though I am getting to know all the notes on the E string. This may be due to the guitar top string being an E and forms the basis for all major chords playing a barre. I have a lesson tomorrow so I will get my teacher to explain it a little better because It was lost on me the first time. It takes time for some things to sink in at first but when they do then I know I am confident with it. _________________ you cant get any worse |

I got my lesson tonight
My teacher showed me how to slide between first and third positions and we covered the movement a few times, Now I will be trying this movement a few times as you have advised, amezcua. Discovering a feel for the violin a lot more now; especially as I have been writing music and playing along. This is definitely my first instrument now. _________________ you cant get any worse |

Beginning to read music more proficiently now. I am gaining more confidence when I put a piece of music in front of me. I play through using the notes only. Then I play through with the accents. _________________ you cant get any worse |

Got my lesson tonight started to learn about minor scales. have to get used to these scales. I dont have a lesson for another few weeks yet. So I am going to rehearse major and minor scales in first position so I can play them from memory. _________________ you cant get any worse |

Some "songs" from the Bach Cello suites (arranged for the violin of course) are fairly easy. Several are in the early Suzuki books. I have all the Cello suites transcribed for the violin and they are a pleasure to play. |

The Bach pieces antecedent to the ones I've listed are the Bach pieces in the Suzuki books, starting with Minuet 1 in the first book. These initial Suzuki pieces are violin transcriptions of the keyboard works Bach wrote for his second wife, to teach her how to play keyboard. See a listing of the materials in the Suzuki books:

Thanks techfiddle,
I have the first Suzuki book and the 2 Bach pieces in those are my favourite to play, its good to rehearse the two back to back and over again to improve my touch. Im thinking of transposing them to different key,s to get used to the scales. _________________ you cant get any worse |
